AUSTRAHORT NEWSLETTER

AUGUST 2009

Message from Mike

Dear Customers,

Winter has her firm grip on Australia although in early July, I traveled to north Queensland and reveled in temperatures that permitted swimming on the reef and playing golf in perfect conditions – I also did some business, but a first for me and one couldn’t help but wonder at what relevance Canberra and its politicians have to the remote areas of Australia, a question asked no doubt on many occasions!

Phytosanitary Inspection Services – without prior notice AQIS have given notice of increased charges to take effect immediately that have the effect of increasing the cost of Phytosanitary Certification to AU$ 155 per document – outrageous, the increase in the actual documentation cost is from AU$ 10 to $85 in one fell swoop, an increase of 750%. Additionally, we now must pay for inspector’s time chargeable by the quarter hour. Please accept our apologies, naturally we wrote in objection but seemingly, a worthless exercise for the charges are now implemented.

AustraBlend Super Soil – We are pleased to notify customers of the availability of this soil ameliorant, designed by Australian soil technologists with particular application to the sandy desert soils of the Middle East. The soil is comprised of composted organics and clays and it is in the clays that the secret is held for they not only significantly increase water holding capacity, but due to the specific low surface tensions of the clays, make water and nutrients accessible to plant roots in a manner not regularly available from most competitive products.

We are extremely excited about the prospects of this AustraHort development, certainly not confined to the Middle East but to any depleted soil environment where water retention is a paramount concern – that I guess is everywhere! – we look forward to receiving your enquires.

Business seems to be stable, there is greater optimism abroard, I guess the old truism of one never being able to see the top in a rising market and the bottom in a falling one applies – the natural optimism of human nature simply does not permit markets to languish on the bottom for prolonged periods so let us hope the enthusiasm is genuinely based and that we can all look forward to better and more secure times.

Thank you very much for your continuing support,

Mike Farrar
