Common Name: Desert Lime

Native to Australia. A thorny shrub/small tree growing to 12 m. Tolerates cold, heat, drought and salt situations. The thorns grown on low branches to prevent animal grazing. White flowers appear August, followed by fruit which ripens green to yellow, November to December. A highly sought after bushfood, used in marmalades and beverages. Good rainfall results in an abundance of fruit.

Common Name: Blue Quandong

Native to Australia, a subtropical rainforest tree growing 28 to 35 m. A large single trunk with buttress roots which are an attractive feature of this tree. Flowers appear March to June, bell shaped green/white in racemes along branches. Fruit are bright blue, 2 to 3 cm diameter, used in jams and pickles, and a source of vitamin C. Somewhat frost tolerant, prefers full sun.

Native to Australia. Medium sized tree up to 30 m. Small pink/red juvenile leaves mature to glossy green leaves. White/cream flowers November to December in pannicles followed by red berries December to February, containing a single seed, attractive to birds and flying foxes. Uses include food crop (dried peas, flour, green peas), green manure crop, livestock feed and forage interplanted with grasses.

The leaves of this plant vary in shape depending on growing region but typically are thin, linear, tapered and glabrous. Small, sweet scented flowers appear winter and summer, followed by pink/light purple fruit. The fruit are a food source for birds including emus. Hardy in cultivation and drought tolerant.

Prefers light, sandy soils in sunny position. Wind resistant but does not tolerate frost. Regrows well after coppicing.
