Common Name: Copperpod, Yellow Poinciana
Deciduous tree native to tropical south-east Asia, growing 15 to 25 m tall. Yellow flowers appear in summer in large racemes up to 20 cm long that cover the tree, followed by bronze pods, ripening to black. An ornamental shade tree for large gardens and parks. Timber is used in cabinet making, foliage as fodder crop. A source of soga, a yellow/brown pigment used for dying cotton and batik. Prefers tropical and subtropical climates.
