Common Name: Pigeon Pea
Native to India, widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical Queensland and New South Wales. Shrub to small tree growing 1 to 4 m, an annual or short-lived perennial with a deep taproot. A drought resistant nitrogen-fixing legume, up to 90 kg nitrogen per hectare. Uses include food crop (dried peas, flour, green peas), green manure crop, livestock feed and forage interplanted with grasses.
